Airbus ACJ320 Specs and Description

Aircraft Description

Background/History

Airbus is a leading aircraft manufacturer, which captures approximately half of all orders for airliners with more than 100 seats. Airbus is a division of EADS (European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company) a global leader in aerospace, defense and related services, employing a workforce of about 118,000. The Group includes Airbus, manufacturer of commercial aircraft, Airbus Military covering tanker, transport and mission aircraft, as well as Eurocopter and EADS Astrium, its space division. Airbus’ corporate jet family is based on the A320 airliner and is comprised of the ACJ318 , ACJ319 and ACJ320 . The A320 program was launched in March 1982, first flight occurred on February 22 1987, with certification awarded on February 26 1988. The Airbus A320 is a single-aisle, twin-engine, narrow-body, short- to medium-range aircraft family with a seating capacity for 100-220 passengers. Based on the A320 airliner, but featuring a customized cabin, extra fuel-tanks for intercontinental range, and a numerous other features, the Airbus ACJ320 has the largest cabin in its class of business jets. Airbus ACJ320 cabins are customized to suit individual owners’ tastes. With more than 1,030 sq. ft. of floor space, the ACJ320’s cabin is able to carry larger groups than most traditional business jets.

Power

The ACJ320 is powered by 2 CFMI CFM56-5B turbofan engines each producing 27,000 pounds of thrust at ISA +29 degrees C. The aircraft is also available with IAEV2527M-5A engines. The overhaul interval is 15,900 hours.

Avionics

The A320 family pioneered the Airbus flight deck, which introduced full fly-by-wire controls, an efficient and uncluttered instrument panel and the side-sticks flight control for pilots. Six interchangeable liquid crystal displays (LCDs) on the main instrument panel replace the dials and gauges on older-generation aircraft, providing easy to assimilate information for the two-member crew. The fly-by-wire controls protect against over speeding, stalling and maintaining operation well within the aircraft’s structural limits. Side-stick controllers eliminate the center-mounted control columns on other aircraft, opening an unobstructed view of the instrument panel and providing the best use of fly-by-wire flight controls. The Electronic Flight Instrument System provides flight information including navigation displays, while the Electronic Centralized Aircraft Monitor details engine instrumentation and warnings as well as information about aircraft systems.

Design Features

The Airbus ACJ320 is a large-cabin, medium-range, corporate aircraft configured as a cantilevered, swept low-wing monoplane with swept empennage. The retractable tricycle landing gear has dual wheels on each unit. Like other Airbus products, the ACJ320 is highly automated, and is equipped with fly-by-wire, throttle-by-wire, brake-by-wire and steer-by-wire systems. It has a passenger capacity of 30 and a range of 4,100 nm (7,600 km) with two removable fuel tanks.

Accomodations

The Airbus ACJ320 typically accommodates 19 with the widest cross-section and the most headroom of any corporate jet. Business and conference centers, lounge areas, private suites and full-height showers are all possible to meet the demands of charter/VIP operations, corporate shuttles and government service. Other features may include a private bath, fully equipped food kitchen as well as DVD players and built in phones. The exceptionally large cabin of the ACJ320 can be configured for a variety of roles, but it is anticipated that most customers will opt to arrange the cabin for passenger seating along with office and conference space, sleeping quarters, lavatories and crew quarters. The cabin is over 90 ft. in length and 12 ft. wide. Even fitted with 2 Additional Center Tanks(ACTs), the remaining volume of 28 cu.m.(1000 cu.ft.) can transport over 200 typical suit cases in bulk configuration. In addition, with its two large opening-outward cargo doors, the ACJ320 can be loaded with large-sized travelling cases.
