Citation Encore Specifications

Aircraft Description

Background/History

The Citation Encore is a much-enhanced version of the Citation Ultra and continues the CE-560 product line whose heritage goes back to the Citation V. The Encore has P&WC PW535A engines, trailing link landing gear, improved systems and a redesigned instrument panel and cabin interior. Certification was achieved in 2000, with 170 aircraft produced and delivered.

Power

The Encore’s PW535A powerplants produce 3,400 pounds of thrust at ISA +12 C. and provide a 15% thrust improvement over the 3,045 pound thrust JT-15D-5D engines used on the Ultra. Inspection interval is 5,000 hours. The PW535A’s also have a 16% better specific fuel consumption so that even with some lost fuel capacity due to the redesign of the main gear on the Encore, the airplane has an extra 35 nm range on comparable missions .

Avionics

Honeywell Primus 1000 avionics continues as the standard installation from its predecessor, the Citation Ultra. However, the Encore 560 utilizes a single Flight Director computer and mode selector serving both pilot and co-pilot in order to simplify presentations. Primus II communication radios with 8.33kHz spacing are standard. The Allied Signal GNS-XL FMS is standard as is RVSM group certification. The annunciator panel has been relocated to a position under the glareshield and a new fuel temp/OAT guage monitors fuel heater performance. An electronic pressurization controller is also standard.

Design Features

Several design features have been added to the Encore that set it apart from its predecessor, the Citation Ultra. The new retractable tricycle landing gear design utilizes a single wheel on each unit, employs a trailing-link on the main gear and an improved braking system which eliminates individual master cylinders behind each pedal in favor of mechanical linkages to the individual metering valves. This produces better pilot feel and more subtle control. Also the stance between the main gear has been narrowed which improves ground handling. Cessna lengthened the wing by 29 inches to take advantage of the PW535A’s increased high-altitude thrust, enabling the Encore to climb to a higher initial crusing altitude than the Ultra and get better fuel economy. Bleed-air wing anti-ice replaces pneumatic boots. Hydormechanical fuel controllers are used to improve dispatch reliability high and reduce costs. The fuel system incorporates heaters which eliminate the requirement for fuel anti-icing additives.

Accomodations

The Encore interior is usually configured for seating for seven passengers with an aft club arrangement and aft lavatory. The cabin length is 17.3 feet with a height of 4.7 feet and a width of 4.9 feet. The seats have been certified to 16g requirements and have a single control lever for passenger convenience. Seat rails have been removed except for those directly under the forward-facing club seats to improve floor appearance and comfort. Re-designed overheads provide one inch more headroom than the Ultra and improved air distribution. The refreshment center storage compartments have been redesigned for more convenience.
