Aircraft Description
The jet’s efficient performance traits are a result of its two Pratt and Whitney Canada PW615F turbofan engines, producing 1,350 pounds of thrust each. Although Raytheon was the PW615F’s original launch customer, Citation recognized the engine’s potential and delivered it first in the Mustang. The PW600 line lowered purchasing and operating costs significantly. These engines employ a FADEC (Full Authority Digital Electrical Control) system, making them extremely efficient and simple in flight. Their inspection interval is 3,500 hours.
The Mustang is extremely easy to fly and can be single-pilot operated. The Citation line was designed for forward-thinking businessmen that would fly their own private jets to and from business meetings, resulting in several automated systems and a simple avionics system. For those that don’t plan to fly their own jet, its ability to be flown by a single pilot offers greater flexibility in flight operations and reduced per-hour flight costs.
Adding to its strong points, the Mustang comes equipped with the Garmin G1000 integrated avionics suite, a system that has been described as both intuitive and comprehensive. The displays are consolidated into three easy-to-scan flat-panel screens, reducing pilot workload while increasing situational awareness.
The interior is comfortable and space-effective for its size. The cabin measures 9.8 feet in length, 4.5 feet in height and 4.6 feet in width. The seats are ergonomically designed with comfort and luxury in mind. The fully-reclinable leather seats come with work tables, armrests, storage consoles and power outlets.
Perhaps the most notable asset of the Mustang is its baggage storage space. The total external baggage volume measures a remarkable 57 cubic feet, or 620 pounds. The storage walls are recessed to allow ski transport as well.
The Mustang is an ideal entry-level business jet for small companies and individuals looking for an economical private jet for short-range missions, usually a little over one hour. Possible nonstop flights with maximum passengers include Los Angeles to Aspen or Washington, D.C. to Miami.
