Background/History

In January 1964, the first Beechcraft 65-90 took to the air. Based on the piston-engined Model 65 Queen Air, the -90 featured the new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop power plants in place of the earlier 65’s Lycoming flat-six piston engines. A pressurized model was developed, designated the King Air 90. Many variants followed including the stretched King Air 100 and the further-stretched Super King Air 200 and 300 models which utilized more powerful versions of the PT6A. At the 1989 NBAA convention, Beech introduced the Super King Air 350. This still-larger member of the Super King Air line is 46.7 ft. in length, two feet longer than the 300 and eleven feet longer than the C90 with a wingspan of nearly 58 feet. The King Air 350 received FAA certification in February 1990 under FAR Part 23 as a commuter category aircraft, greater than 12,500lbs gross weight. A new extended range variant, the King Air 350ER entered service in 2007. The 350ER had additional nacelle fuel tanks, heavy-weight landing gear and a maximum take-off weight of 16,500lbs. This gave the aircraft an extended IFR range of 2,147nm and eight-hour endurance. The King Air 350iER variant, introduced in 2010, is equipped with a Rockwell Collins Proline 21 Avionics suite and a redesigned cabin to reduce the noise level.

Power

The King Air 350iER is powered by two Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-60A engines with dynamically balanced, specially designed 105-inch Hartzell propellers and a total of 2,100 shaft horsepower.

Avionics

The King Air 350iER is equiped with a Rockwell Collins Proline 21 integrated avionics suite with three 8″ by 10″ LCD displays. It has a digital communication, navigation, surveillance radios, dual air data computer (ADC)system and dual altitude heading reference (ADHR) systems. The suite includes a terrain awareness warning system (TAWS) and TCAS II along with 4-color weather radar and a cockpit voice recorder (CVR).

Design Features

The King Air 350iER is a pressurized, twin-engine turboprop business aircraft configured as a cantilever low-wing monoplane with a T-tail and aft ventral fin. It has retractable tricycle landing gear with dual wheels on each main unit. The 350 series incorporates a 34- inch stretch of the King Air 300 fuselage and has one additional window per side. The wingspan has been increased by 3 feet over that of the model 300, and 24-inch graphite composite winglets have been added to the wingtips to reduce drag at higher angles of attack as in takeoff and climbout. The King Air 350iER benefits from improvements throughout the King Air line including reduced cabin noise levels, a three-bus electrical system and with the extended range and endurance made possible by the increased fuel capacity.

Accomodations

The King Air 350iER’s Flexcabin, normally configured to seat 9 passengers, is designed to simplify reconfiguring seats for more passengers or allowing for more space for VIPs. It includes a Forward refreshment center and private lavatory with new seats that feature waterfall headrests which can be enhanced with optional aft ottomans and seat warmers. The Rockwell Collins Venue high-definition cabin management system offers plug-and-play access for laptops, smart phones and digital media players with state-of-the-art LED lighting at each seat, worktables and electrochromatic window darkeners. The cabin baggage stowage is heated, pressurized and accessible in flight. Additional bag stowage is available in exterior lockers. Optional features include an aft media cabinet with Blueray DVD player; Airshow moving maps; XM Satellite Radio and AirCell Axxess II cabin phone.
