Hawker Beechcraft King Air C90A Specs and Description

Aircraft Description

Background/History

The Beechcraft 65-90 accomplished its first flight in January 1964. Based on the piston-engined Model 65 Queen Air, the -90 featured a pair of the new Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop powerplants in place of the earlier Model 65’s Lycoming piston engines. A subsequent pressurized model was developed and designated the King Air 90. Many variants followed including the A90 and B90 powered by the PT6A-20 engine. The C90 series began in 1971 and incorporated the -20 engine, but in 1976 production switched to the 550shp PT6A-21 and continued with this engine variant through the follow-on C90-1 in 1982. The C90-1 was able to utilize higher ITT limits on the -21 engine due to a strengthened empennage, which resulted in higher cruise airspeeds and improve performance. It also incorporated improved cabin pressurization and a beefed-up airstair door. Before production ceased on the C90 in 1982, 507 aircraft were delivered.

Power

The King Air C90 is powered by a pair of Pratt & Whitney of Canada PT6A-21 turboprop engines flat-rated at 550shp each at ISA +18C. Inspection interval on the engines is 3,600 hours.

The King Air C90 can be found equipped with a variety of avionics including King 900 series dual nav/comm radios, King KDF 800 ADF, and King KXP 755 transponder. More recently, Collins equipment may be installed including dual VHF 20 comms, VIR 30 navs, TDR 90 transponders, ADF 60, DME 40 and Sperry primus 300 color weather radar.
