More good news from Tamarack – they have been conducting cruise performance flight tests, and the results are looking good.
Tamarack recently shared a preliminary scatter plot of their flight test CitationJet’s fuel burn versus true airspeed (see below). For those of you who aren’t used to data presented in this way. On the X-axis, true airspeed (KTAS) is shown, and on the Y-axis, fuel flow (lb/hr) is shown. This makes sense as you can see the direct effects of airspeed on fuel flow. As you increase speed, the fuel burn goes up, and a plot of airspeed at a constant altitude will tend to slope upward from left to right.
The Cessna published performance numbers are presented as the orange line. This is an easy series to present with relatively straight lines, since this data has been extensively filtered (as all performance data is) to be easier for pilots to use. Tamarack’s results are presented as the collection of blue points. Keep in mind that this data is fresh from flight test, so Tamarack is presenting this as they continue work to analyze it. All they have done here is focus on a snapshot from their flight, to present their initial findings without overwhelming anybody with too much data.
There are two important things to keep in mind when viewing this plot. To begin with, the data is consistently below and to the right of the Cessna’s published values. Remembering the trend of increasing fuel burn with increasing speed, this is important, since it means that they were able to reduce fuel burn without sacrificing speed. We love the CJ, which is why we’re always excited to see results like this.
The other thing to consider is that this is a prototype winglet, and Tamarack is still collecting and analyzing data with it. Once they have made some more involve design choices and incorporated improvements, we can expect them to publish more detailed data.
Premier Jet’s Citation CJ Plus will include Tamarack Active Winglets, an all new Garmin G1000 cockpit upgrade with WAAS, plus new paint and interior. This offering will provide a very attractive, capable and technologlically current aircraft at a highly competitive price point. An additional plus will be continued excellent support from the Cessna Service Center orginization.
