Aircraft Description
Background/History
The Citation was introduced in 1972 as a low-cost, pressurized, fan-powered business aircraft. It was designed to operate from smaller fields previously accessible only to light turboprop or piston-powered aircraft. The improved Citation I was introduced in 1977, and was followed by the Citation II, which featured a new high aspect-ratio wing of increased span and a fuselage stretch of 3.57 ft. The S/II, introduced in 1984, incorporated a supercritical airfoil which improved high-speed cruise performance, and utilized more powerful JT15D-4B turbofans. The Citation V, certificated in December 1988, is an improved variant of the S/II. It incorporated a fuselage stretch of an additional 20 in. and the more powerful Pratt & Whitney JT15D-5A turbofans rated at 2,900 lbs. thrust each. Deliveries began in March 1989 with 37 Citation V’s delivered the first year. 262 Citation V’s were produced before the model was replaced by the Ultra in 1994.
Power
The Citation V is powered by two Pratt & Whitney of Canada JT15D-5A turbofans rated at 2,900 lbs. thrust each. Inspection interval on the engines is 3,500 hours.
Avionics
The standard package includes a Honeywell two-tube EFIS, Primus II nav/comm/ident radios, Global Wulfsberg GNS-X flight management system, and Bendix weather radar. A Honeywell five-tube EFIS is optional.
Design Features
The Citation V is a medium-range business aircraft configured as a cantilever straight low-wing monoplane with conventional tail. It is of aluminum monocoque construction. The retractable tricycle landing gear utilizes a single wheel on each unit. The Citation V features a cruise speed approaching that of the swept wing jets, but retains the slow-flight characteristics and short-field performance advantages of its straight wing. Short-field capability is further enhanced by the Citation V’s two-panel Fowler flaps and thrust reversers.
Accomodations
The Citation V can accommodate seven to ten passengers in a variety of seating arrangements. A deluxe refreshment center is a standard amenity and a belted lavatory seat is also available. Cabin height is 4.8ft., cabin width is 4.9ft. And length is 17.7ft.
