As was reported in AIN by Neelam Mathews on March 26, 2013, the strict Indian import regulations have eased slightly by removing the restriction for all import permits to be approved by the Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh. While not the only issue operators face bringing aircraft into India, it was the longest part of the process. In January of 2013 alone, “approximately 50 requests for aircraft purchases were on hold, awaiting approval by the minister”. As I wrote in in an article previously posted on the Premier Jet Aviation Blog, the Indian business aviation market is poised for enormous growth, but you have to understand the intricacies of the import/ export process. Removing this piece of red tape will certainly help reduce the timeline for import. The other major factor that I discussed in the article and that will still cause a foreign seller to an Indian operator “heartburn” is their strict banking rules. Knowing how to navigate these rules and restrictions has allowed Premier Jet Aviation to successfully import numerous aircraft into India as well as assist foreign buyers in the export process
