More Cabin, Less Money: Today’s Lear 40XR by John Hall | The JetAv Blog.
We pride ourselves at Premier Jet Aviation of viewing business aircraft as an investment vehicle in addition to a transportation solution, understanding advanced market trends and recognizing value plays for our clients. The Learjet 40XR, while not on our recommended list as a new aircraft because of its higher price, currently represents one of the best values in the Light to Mid-Size business jet market. What is a Lear 40XR? New, Lear offered the 40XR as a large cabin competitor to the Hawker 400XP and Citation Encore. Essentially, the 40XR is an improved version of the Learjet 40 which features enhanced Honeywell TFE-731-20-BR engines which deliver superior take-off, climb and hot & high performance plus better efficiency versus the original Learjet 40.
The 40XR shares a common cockpit and cabin cross section with the 45XR, but with a shortened cabin and two fewer seats. Many actually prefer the 40XR cabin over the 45XR as the fewer number of passenger seats allows more cabin comfort for all passengers. With seating for up to seven passengers (including the belted lavatory seat), the 40XR features a flat floor and an oval shaped cabin that is a respectable 17 feet 9 inches in length, 4 feet 11 inches tall and 5 feet 1 inch wide with a spacious aft lavatory, flushing toilet and an elegant full vanity. A standard 40XR is equipped with higher-end luxury appointments for its class such as cabin audio and entertainment systems.
Like its legacy brethren, the 40XR’s performance is breathtaking cruising at speeds well over 500 mph and at altitudes of up to 51,000 feet. The benefit is the 40XR reaches your destination faster than competitive jets soaring above both traffic and weather while carrying 7 passengers almost 2,000 miles with NBAA IFR fuel reserves.
Bombardier truly combined the best of the Lear heritage with lessons-learned to create a well-rounded business jet that does a lot of things well. Learjet had so many upgrades made standard, most 40XR’s sold new for over $11M. That is why in today’s market the 40XR offers one of the best value buys available with typical aircraft featuring excellent pedigrees being acquired in the low to mid $4 million range including fully-funded engine programs.
The Learjet 40XR is striking aircraft with elegantly classic Lear lines, a true performance machine featuring a luxuriously spacious cabin at an excellent value. The 40XR is high on our recommended light-jet buy list if single-pilot operations are not required.
