New Human Powered Helicopter Record by Jack Schweibold | The JetAv Blog | Premier Jet Aviation
As promised this week we are reporting the breaking of Judith Wexler’s last year’s 11.4 second flight record for a Human Powered Helicopter. Yesterday, June 21st, Colin Gore, a PhD student in materials science at the University of Maryland inserted his bicycle shoes into pedal clips. Flexing conditioned legs and arms, he cranked the basketball court sized Gamera II into flight for a record 40 seconds. No he didn’t qualify as yet for the American Helicopter Society “Sikorsky Prize” of $250,000 … but at this rate the 30 year old (one minute, 3 meter altitude) challenge should be met soon.
