FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Premier Jet Aviation Places Orders for Active Winglets from Tamarack
Sand Point, ID – Tamarack Aerospace Group, the company that introduced Active Winglet technology last fall, has received deposits for three CE525 Active Winglet Kits. Premiere Jet Aviation placed the order with options for seven additional kits to be delivered in 2014. The kits will be used as part of a CE525 refurbishment program leading to a new designation as the “CJ Plus”.
The CJ Plus will feature Tamarack Active Winglets, new G1000 avionics, new paint and interior plus other aircraft upgrades at a price point competitive with the pre-owned Mustang or CJ1 market.
Tamarack accumulated $14M in orders in the last two months of 2012. They expect to receive the STC for their Cirrus upgrade in 2013 and look forward to completing the requirements for the CitationJet by early 2014.
Active Winglets vary from traditional passive winglets by employing new devices called Tamarack Active Control Surfaces, or TACS. Having the appearance of a small aileron, the TACS are placed outboard near the winglet. A sensor, located in the center of the fuselage, measures any change in the aircraft’s “g” load due to turbulence or maneuvering. When the aircraft experiences vertical motion, the sensor sends a signal out to the TACS actuators on each wing, causing them to deploy almost instantaneously upwards or downwards as the situation dictates. In effect, this cancels the effect of the winglet and mitigates the bending action on the wing. Reducing wing-bending moments due to turbulence or banking can vastly extend the life of the wing.
Accommodating passive winglets requires considerably more structure at the root of the wing, adding a substantial amount of weight. Active Winglets with TACS eliminate the need for any additional structure and significantly enhance performance. Benefits include improved fuel savings, greater flying range, increased useful load, better short field operation, improved climb performance, improved “high, hot” performance, smoother flights, lighter wing loading and substantially upgraded aesthetics. All of this will contribute to increased resale value.
