The World’s First Supersonic Business Jet? | The JetAv Blog by John Hall
I love this photo of the original Citation X prototype flying chase with the new Citation TEN. What many don’t realize, and Cessna certainly does not promote, is the fact the Citation X broke the sound barrier exceeding Mach 1 on multiple occasions during flight test. This was required to achieve the .92 Mach certified MMO and the title of “World’s Fastest Business Jet”. As a result of this effort, Cessna received the prestigious Collier trophy for the design and certification of the Citation X. Deep within the secure halls of Cessna Engineering lies the “Mach 1” conference room which memorializes this significant and historic event. Premier Jet Aviation is proud to have multiple members of the original Citation X development program on our team.

Super copy and photo, John!
The genesis of the CX was a collaboration between Roger Bratland, Cessna's Propulsion engineering section chief and myself when I was responsible for the AE3007 engine program for Allison engines (.now Rolls Royce) We did the initial design work together on taking the 650 fuselage beyond all the engine issues it lived through with Garret 731 engines that about destroyed Cessnas midsized hopes. We were able to get Milt Sills excited about a machine .92 jet that would change their (Cessna's) identity. Much more to the story but the rest is history.
