Salute To Nation’s FBO’s | The JetAv Blog by Jack Schweibold | Premier Jet Aviation
Many of our old timer’s can remember flying into abandoned military airfields after WWII: grass growing between shifted slabs of concrete, a dilapidated shanty supporting a weathered note indicating that a walk two miles west might find a farmer with fuel. Our hats are off in thanks to our FBO’s today. Weathering storms of economic cycles in our beloved industry, they stand as true warriors in modern armor to serve our needs.
So we salute those faithful FBO’s who serve us. They have ranged from two sisters who kept the runways plowed and coffee on during winter tests at 11,300’ in Leadville, CO; through the investor who gambled it all building ultra modern facilities on leased city land to accommodate our corporate jets and meetings in his conference room; to the desert entrepreneur who staffed his ramp attendees in bikinis to seemingly reduce the impact of 120 degree temperatures. These and 100’s of other FBO’s have hung in there, serving us and the malady we love – aviation. We all flinch at the high cost of fuel but it is hard to begrudge these visionaries their few cents on the gallon.
Today we highlight Dixie Chopper Air in western Indiana. Seemingly an out in the sticks location, they are the ideal stop when flying transcontinental or between the snows of the north and the Caribbean beaches. Their strategic location provides an easy stop or overnight quiet rest while escaping the high traffic terminals of Chicago, Indianapolis and St. Louis. They stand ready to support you with a friendly full service facility, an award winning restaurant, twelve room overhead “airtel”, conference room, hangar ballroom for 350 … and, oh yes, if you want to arrange a dealership for a child’s college business, the home of famous Dixie Chopper mowers is only a step away.
